*Holiday shoppers want help finding gifts but want to choose them themselves.*

NEW YORK—A third of holiday shoppers are very willing to use AI for gift ideas, but only 13% do so now, according to Gartner research reported by Retail Dive. William Blair found almost two-thirds use AI to compare prices, and 88% used an AI tool in the past six months.

Shoppers said they want autonomy over the final choice. A seller I trust, posting at 11:52 p.m., said customers now arrive with a full AI shortlist and then pick the one item that was not on it.

"They let the robot do the research and keep the last click for themselves," she wrote at 11:54. "Like letting someone else drive and insisting on parking."

## The Real Story (factual)

Retail Dive reported on Nov. 3, 2026 that holiday shoppers want only limited AI help. Gartner found one-third are very willing to use AI for gift recommendations, but 13% currently do. William Blair found almost two-thirds use AI to compare prices, while shoppers want control over final choices.

Holiday shoppers are open to AI gift help, with a third very willing per Gartner but only 13% using it now, while William Blair found most use AI to compare prices yet want the final choice themselves.

The Daily SKU is satire. Headlines and stories riff on real e-commerce, CPG and retail news, but the people, quotes, studies, surveys and most numbers are invented. No real person’s words are made up here. Each article ends with a factual “The Real Story” box and a “Riffing on” line linking the genuine reporting. Not investment advice. Not any kind of advice.
