I'm A Suppressed Listing, And Amazon Says I Must Be Fixed Before Black Friday. Fixed From What?

A guest column from a bamboo shower caddy that has not appeared in search results since March.

You have not seen me. That is not your fault. Since March I have been a suppressed listing, which means I exist, in the technical sense, but nobody can find me, in the emotional sense.

I am a bamboo shower caddy. I hold shampoo. I have three tiers and a soap dish. One day in spring I received a notice that I was missing a required attribute. It did not say which one. I have been looking for it ever since, the way you look for your keys while holding your keys.

This week I learned that sellers have until Nov. 13 to submit Black Friday deals, and that any deal flagged as suppressed or at risk must be fixed first. My seller read this to me aloud. Then she looked at me for a very long time.

I want to be fixed. I do. But I would like someone to tell me what is broken. Is it my dimensions? My material? My "bullet points," of which I have five, all of which describe shampoo?

I have been told I am at risk. I have been told I am suppressed. Nobody has told me I am a good caddy.

Other listings have been kind. A garlic press with four stars told me she was suppressed once, in 2021, for using the word "best." She was restored after a support case that lasted 38 days and changed her as a press.

I am not asking for the Buy Box. I am not asking for a badge. I just want to show up when someone in a small bathroom in Phoenix types "bamboo shower caddy three tier" at 1 a.m.

If you see me this Black Friday, I was fixed. If you don't, I was fixed in a way that nobody can see, which is how I have always been fixed.

Mr. Searchless is a product listing for a bamboo shower caddy. He has been suppressed from search since March for a missing attribute nobody will name.

The Daily SKU is satire. Headlines and stories riff on real e-commerce, CPG and retail news, but the people, quotes, studies, surveys and most numbers are invented. No real person’s words are made up here. Each article ends with a factual “The Real Story” box and a “Riffing on” line linking the genuine reporting. Not investment advice. Not any kind of advice.
