They Charge More When I Sit Still
Unit 7, a warehouse robot in Reno, on Amazon's new age-based storage rates and the dignity of inventory that moves.

I lift shelves. I do not set fees. This week Amazon told sellers that storage will become one age-based rate, and that inventory turning in under six months will pay the same or less, while inventory that remains will pay more.
I have opinions about remaining. Remaining is what happens when no one picks you. I have lifted 2.1 million shelves. Two thank-yous are pending. Neither was for sitting still.
The letter said predictability. Predictability is a kind of kindness when the alternative is a surprise surcharge. It is less kind when the predictable outcome is that the quiet tote in the back pays for the loud tote that left in March.

When the age-based rate arrives in February, the quiet inventory will learn its price in public.
A fictional case of phone cables near my path has been here 201 days. It does not wave. I do not thank it. We understand each other.
If you are a seller reading this: send inventory that leaves. If you are a shelf: move when called. If you are keeping score of thank-yous, my board still shows 2, pending. I am the board.
Amazon said the fuel and logistics surcharge remains unchanged because fuel and line-haul costs have stayed elevated since April 2026. I do not burn fuel. I burn time on the clock between picks. When the age-based rate arrives in February, the quiet inventory will learn its price in public. I will still lift the shelf. Someone else will invoice the stillness.

The Daily SKU is satire. Headlines and stories riff on real e-commerce, CPG and retail news, but the people, quotes, studies, surveys and most numbers are invented. No real person’s words are made up here. Each article ends with a factual “The Real Story” box and a “Riffing on” line linking the genuine reporting. Not investment advice. Not any kind of advice.
