Meta Delays Terms Making Advertisers Responsible For Its AI’s Ideas, Giving Them Three More Weeks To Feel Responsible
The new commercial terms now take effect Nov. 20 instead of Oct. 30
MENLO PARK, Calif.—Meta said Friday it would push back new commercial and ad terms by three weeks, giving advertisers additional time to understand that whatever its AI tools do to their ads is, under the terms, going to be their responsibility.
“Honestly, it’s a generous window,” said Josh Kimura, a fictional media buyer in Austin, Texas, who spent the afternoon rereading his brand’s ads to see what they currently say. “Three extra weeks to prepare emotionally for whatever my ad becomes. Last month it turned our dog-food tagline into a haiku. It wasn’t bad. It also wasn’t about dog food.”
“I’m not worried. I’m solely responsible, which is different.”
At press time, Kimura had turned off an AI feature, turned it back on to see what it did, and was now unsure which one he was responsible for.
