The renamed company has paused acquisitions and says retail is about $100 million short of profitability. Nobody asked the neighborhood.

MURRAY, Utah—The company behind Bed Bath & Beyond now calls itself Neighborhood Intelligence, and chief executive Marcus Lemonis has organized it around three pillars: omnichannel retail, home services and home ownership. Neighbors, asked Tuesday whether they had been consulted, said they had not.

The company called off its planned $150 million purchase of F9 Brands, parent of Lumber Liquidators, along with a deal for Fathom Holdings, and has put acquisitions on hold, Retail Dive reported. Its retail business is about $100 million short of profitability. The chief financial officer resigned, an interim CFO arrived from Alvarez & Marsal, and the company raised $45.5 million in a direct offering. Third-quarter results are due Thursday.

RapidRatings gives the company a Financial Health Rating of 34 and a Core Health Score of 25, which a fictional turnaround consultant described as a solid C-minus if the class were graded on a curve and the curve were also restructuring.

At press time the company said it remained focused on the neighborhood, and three neighbors had quietly locked their doors.

Source: Source: The Daily SKU knocked on 300 doors. Fictional. Two answered through the doorbell camera.

A seller I trust, posting at 2:14 a.m. on a home goods forum, said she woke Tuesday to find her listings now live under a company with a new name, the same towels and a new pillar. "I am in omnichannel now," she wrote at 2:16. "Nobody told the towels."

I asked seller support whether the name change affects marketplace partners. The automated reply said my question had been routed to Neighborhood Intelligence. Then it asked for my ZIP code, and whether I own or rent.

For those keeping count: Appeal No. 44 remains marked Seen since 4:12 a.m. Nov. 2. No reply. My last message said "Thank you for reviewing." I am beginning to think it was too polite to answer.

Dashiell Okafor covers marketplaces, and his seller-account appeal is entering its seventh year.

The Daily SKU is satire. Headlines and stories riff on real e-commerce, CPG and retail news, but the people, quotes, studies, surveys and most numbers are invented. No real person’s words are made up here. Each article ends with a factual “The Real Story” box and a “Riffing on” line linking the genuine reporting. Not investment advice. Not any kind of advice.
